Tatton Consulting supported Westminster-based tidal energy company Sunborn in its successful application to CMDC Round 4 – Feasibility Studies and Pre-Deployment Trials, awarded £183,488 by Innovate UK for the project S-TGG: A novel Tidal Gravity Generator for renewable, shoreside energy in ports and harbours with high efficiency and low environmental impact. The total Innovate UK grant across all project partners was £443,583.
About the funded R&D project
The UK holds one of the world’s largest marine energy resources at over 10GW, around half of Europe’s total tidal capacity, and the maritime industry uses very little of it. Tidal energy’s advantage over wind and solar is predictability. Sunborn Energy is developing a Tidal Gravity Generator to supply shoreside power in ports and harbours at high efficiency with low environmental impact.
