Tatton Consulting supported South Gloucestershire-based advanced materials recycling company Uplift360 in its successful application to Innovate UK Smart grants: July 2024, which was awarded £340,988 by Innovate UK for the project ChemR: Developing an innovative and sustainable, low-energy, low-cost separation and recycling process for industrial carbon fibre waste.
About the funded R&D project
ChemR is a low-energy chemical recycling process for advanced composite materials, operating at ambient conditions. Carbon fibre waste from aerospace, automotive, defence and clean energy is currently burned, buried or exported, and the UK produces an estimated 30,000-50,000 tonnes of CFRP waste annually. The project scales the process to deliver high-purity recovered fibres suitable for reinjection into composites manufacturing.
