About the funded R&D project
Light gauge steel wall studs are structurally reliable and carbon-intensive, and embodied carbon regulation is tightening around exactly this kind of component. BIOSTUD develops a bio-composite alternative designed to be carbon-neutral while meeting the structural requirements the steel product currently satisfies. Substitution only works if the replacement passes the same tests, which is where the technical risk sits.
