FAQ
FAQS
What types of grant funding do you specialise in?
We focus exclusively on UK and European innovation grants for high-potential R&D projects.
That includes Innovate UK (Smart, Biomedical, Agritech, Energy Catalysts), NIHR (i4i, AI in Health), DASA (Open and Themed Calls), SBRI, ESA, EIC Pathfinder/Transition, and major automotive, aerospace, and battery programmes like APC and ATI. We don’t get directly involved in R&D tax credits, charity or Third Sector grants or equity funding—just non-dilutive grants with strategic alignment.
What’s your win rate—and how do you achieve it?
Our success rate is ~75%, compared to 5-10% when applying solo and one of the highest in the UK. How?
We achieve this through strict pre-screening, deep technical alignment with funder criteria, and a rigorous bid development process. Every project we take on is vetted not just for eligibility but fundability—and we only proceed if we think you have a strong chance of success. That focus on quality over volume is what gets our clients into the top 5% of Innovate UK scoring bands.
What does your support actually include?
End-to-end, strategic bid development—from positioning through to submission aiming to build long-term partnerships.
We handle everything: identifying the right call, scoping your narrative, writing technical and commercial sections, compiling budgets, managing compliance, and uploading to submission portals. If your project isn’t ready, we’ll tell you why—and help you get there. And yes, we also support resubmissions at no extra cost if the first round doesn’t land.
How do I know if I’m eligible—or more importantly know if I've a good chance of success?
Unlike other Consultants who will only tell you if your eligible, we offer a free 60-second fundability check that tells you both.
Sure you maybe be eligible, but you want to know if you’ve got a good chance of winning. We use our expertise and the latest Freedom of Innovation data to assess whether your innovation, evidence base, and impact case stand a real chance of winning. If it’s too early, we’ll tell you. If it’s strong, we’ll move quickly to frame the opportunity. Minimum project size is typically £150,000+.
What does it cost to work with Tatton?
We offer fixed-fee and no-win-no-fee models, depending on project stage and scope. The only Consultancy to offer this.
Our pricing reflects the level of strategic input, sector specialism, and writing precision required to win at the highest levels. We’re not the cheapest—but we’re the most selective, and we deliver results. Over the lifetime of an engagement, the average amount of grant funding we win for a client is £624,650 – no other consultancy delivers more.
I want to work with you. What do you need from me?
We deem a project is grant ready when it’s technically credible, commercially focused, and strategically aligned with funder priorities.
In practical terms, this means we need to see:
You’ve clearly defined the innovation. It must be novel—not just to your business, but to the market or field—with demonstrable technical or societal impact.
You can demonstrate need, not just ambition. The project addresses a validated problem or market failure, not a speculative opportunity.
You’ve mapped a credible delivery plan. You know what work will be done, by whom, and over what timeframe—with realistic costs and milestones.
You have match funding or investment in place. Most UK grant schemes are co-funded—you’ll need to show you can cover your share of the costs, whether via equity, revenue, or existing capital.
There’s evidence to back your claims. Prior data, proof of concept, partnerships, or a validated route to market all help position you as credible.
You can articulate meaningful impact. Funders want to see public benefit—whether that’s emissions reduction, clinical outcomes, productivity gains, IP generation or export potential.
