Tatton Consulting supported Hackney-based carbon capture and cement materials company Cocoon Carbon in its successful application to Innovate UK Smart grants: June 2023, which was awarded £364,719 by Innovate UK for the project CCSCOC – novel energy-efficient carbon capture technology for mineralising carbon in molten waste to support heavy industry to reach net-zero. The project’s total Innovate UK grant across all partners was £364,719.
About the funded R&D project
Steel and cement together account for around 15% of global CO2 emissions, and neither can be decarbonised by electrification alone. The project develops an energy-efficient carbon capture technology that mineralises carbon within molten waste, giving heavy industry a route to net zero that also addresses the parallel problem of declining slag availability as steelmaking methods change.
