About the funded R&D project
Sorting textile waste by fibre is the step that determines whether recycling is possible at all, and it is currently done by hand or not at all. Re Fibres combines deep learning, computer vision and multispectral sensing, which reads fibre composition optically rather than by label, with automated robotics to handle the material. The output is an end-to-end recycling framework rather than a sorting machine, which is the distinction that makes it usable by the industry.
