About the funded R&D project
Recovering cathode metals from end-of-life EV lithium-ion batteries typically requires either high energy input or aggressive chemistry. Better2Earth, with Robert Gordon University, has proven at bench scale a process needing minimal energy and no toxic materials. The 18-month collaborative project improves process efficiency and then demonstrates scalability and repeatability, which is the step that determines commercial viability.
