Tatton Consulting supported City of London-based concrete monitoring technology company Cloud Cycle in its successful application to Contracts for Innovation: Resource Efficient Construction Impacts, awarded £106,019 by Innovate UK for the project Towards Net-Zero Construction: Leveraging Novel In-Transit Monitoring Tools to Minimise Overspecification and Carbon Emissions in Concrete Production.

About the funded R&D project

The UK produces over 90 million tonnes of concrete a year. A major inefficiency is overdesign: excess cement, often 20% or more, added to absorb risk from variable batching and site conditions. That excess is pure emissions and cost. This project demonstrates in-transit digital monitoring and quality control that allows leaner mixes to be used safely by removing the uncertainty the overdesign compensates for.
