About the funded R&D project
ALS, the most common form of motor neurone disease, affects roughly 25,000 patients across the UK and US and causes progressive muscle paralysis, typically leading to death within two to five years of diagnosis. Existing treatments slow progression by months at most. Crucible’s approach targets a nuclear export factor implicated in the nerve cell damage seen in ALS: reducing levels of that factor is intended to cut production of the toxic proteins driving the disease. The project is delivered with the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience.
