Tatton Consulting supported Stratford-on-Avon-based crop nutrition company Evoponic in its successful application to Farming Futures: Nutrient Management Phase 1 – Industrial Research, which was awarded £258,236 by Innovate UK for the project ZSNPF – Development of a high-efficacy, zero-scorch, folia nitrogen and phosphate fertiliser, enhanced with biostimulants and microbes derived from upcycled digestate. The project’s total Innovate UK grant across all partners was £757,290.

About the funded R&D project

Nitrogen fertiliser costs have risen 80% since 2000 and phosphate costs 70%, while soil-applied nitrogen achieves uptake rates of only 30-50% with a further 10-30% lost to leaching. The environmental consequences include NOx and ammonia emissions. The project develops a foliar nitrogen and phosphate fertiliser designed to avoid leaf scorch, enhanced with biostimulants and microbes derived from upcycled digestate. Foliar application targets the uptake problem directly rather than increasing application rates.
