Tatton Consulting supported City of London-based protein sweetener company Magellan in its successful application to Better food for all – nutrition Mid Stage, awarded £182,549 by Innovate UK for the project A novel approach to scaling up production of Brazzein – a natural, non-caloric protein sweetener and sugar alternative that can address UK and global sugar-related obesity epidemics and health challenges. The total Innovate UK grant across all project partners was £293,121.
About the funded R&D project
Scaling up production of brazzein, a sweet protein, through a novel approach. Production cost is the binding constraint on protein sweeteners: the taste advantage over conventional non-caloric sweeteners is established, and whether it reaches consumers depends on manufacturing economics.
